The RSPCA are running a campaign called "Back Off Badgers!" , which is campaigning against badger culling as a method of helping to control Bovine TB in cattle in England and Wales. The RSPCA website adds:
"This advice goes against the conclusions of the government appointed Independent Scientific Group (ISG) on Cattle TB. The scientific study, undertaken by the ISG, took almost 10 years, cost the lives of more than 10,000 badgers and cost taxpayers £34 million.
The ISG's conclusion was that while badgers are a source of TB in cattle, badger culling can make no meaningful contribution to cattle TB control in Britain."
The ISG's conclusion was that while badgers are a source of TB in cattle, badger culling can make no meaningful contribution to cattle TB control in Britain."
Concerns are also being raised about the methods used to cull the badgers, which mainly revolves around snaring which is well, pretty grim when you think about it!
For more information, check out the campaign on the RSPCA website, including how the government is spending £34 million on a ten-year study, killing over 11,000 badgers in Wales (how expensive is that!? That's like three grand a badger!)
Anyway, less of the serious stuff and more of the fun! The Facebook Support group now has over 120 members - Woo hoo! Thank you so much for everyone's support so far - it really is keeping us going (along with the free Red Bull!)
Much badger love
